Webserver Statistics Programs

Here are some of the most common resources for setting up and maintaining your own webserver. You will find resources that I have found to be useful to many of my colocation customers. Be sure to let me know if you have any questions or if there is something you have found useful that you would like to share with others. Send me an email at ashaver@he.net or I can be reached directly at 510-580-4194.

Webserver Statistics Software

Webtrends More advanced cookie-based tracking; path info, lots of
Webalizer A freely available web stats program with very low load to the webserver.
Report Magic

Analog:
Free, and worth every penny. Basic stats, flexible but takes forever to configure. No path info.

Wusage:
Some path info (top 10 only). Not terribly flexible from what I've seen.

Sawmill:
Very flexible and thorough; allows you to segment and expand data points of interest. Serious path analysis. (Nice online demo too!) This is the package the person who sent me the updates is going to use.

Here is more info on Sawmill
Sawmill 6.3.10 from Flowerfire is a hierarchical log analysis tool, well suited for web server access and referrer logs. It runs as a CGI program on your web server, and publishes an intuitive GUI that can be used from any web browser. This version includes a number of bug fixes.

NetTracker:
Serious clickstream analysis, particularly oriented towards e-commerce. Good price too. (This is the source of the enclosed comparison.)

Summary 2.2.1
Written by Jason Linhart is an advanced web server log analysis tool that extracts information such as a site visitor's connection bandwidth, referring web page, search words, and entry points. This version includes bug fixes.

Traffic Report 1.2
from Seacloak Software is a robust web log analysis tool. Compatible with popular log formats, it generates sophisticated HTML-based reports viewable with any web browser. It gives you a detailed view of the visits to your site, page request counts, average stay time, paths taken, customizable referring page reports, and more. This update introduces a redesigned Report Cache and improved DNS look-ups.

Hope this helps.
